The goal of the Fine and Applied Arts Department at ACA is to identify God–given talents within the student while cultivating the necessary skill and technique for excellence in meaningful Christ-centered expression. This department gives students a variety of creative outlets in both elective classroom settings and extracurricular activities. Choir participants and artists have the opportunity to attend the annual FACCS Fine Arts Festival where they have received numerous honors and awards.
Music is a fun and rewarding part of elementary education. Students learn about matching pitch, steady beat, rhythmic ostinato, and other musical fundamentals. They play and create rhythms on a variety of drum and percussion instruments. Musical concepts are built upon through play in singing games and dances. Older students love the challenge of learning to play the recorder. Productions throughout the year allow the opportunity for these young artists to demonstrate their new skills and growing love for music.
Theatre can function as a means of spiritual enrichment in the life of the Christian; an exercise in worship, if you will. Participation in theatre also sharpens students’ skills in public speaking, interpersonal communication, social interaction, and collaboration.
Theatre is a course offering for students in sixth through twelfth grade. ACA performed You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown in May of 2014, Alice in Wonderland in November of 2014, and Mulan in May of 2016. Our spring show for this year, Peter Pan, will take place on May 5 and 6!
The Junior High Choir is comprised of students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades who enjoy singing in a group setting while using a variety of repertoire written specifically for the needs of the changing voices. The choir prepares music in two or three parts to present at several performances throughout the year. They participate annually in the Jr. Fine Arts Competitions in the spring.
The High School Choir is comprised of students in tenth through twelfth grade. These students learn healthy vocal techniques, ear training, sight-singing, and a variety of choral literature. They perform regularly at school concerts, chapels, and in Disney’s Candlelight Concert at Epcot Center during the Christmas season. They also participate in the FACCS Fine Arts Festival in Jacksonville, FL. At this competition, outstanding musicians have the opportunity to perform solo and ensemble musical selections.
The High School Worship Team is comprised of students in eleventh and twelfth grade. These students learn healthy vocal techniques, ear training, live sound reinforcement, and a variety of contemporary corporate worship songs. The focus of this class is to understand the importance of servant leadership and to apply what has been learned through leading our secondary school students in worship at our weekly chapels.
The Award-Winning Visual Arts program at ACA offers secondary students the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of media and techniques. Acrylic painting, relief printing, still-life and figure drawing, papier-mache, sculpture and collage are enjoyed in this curriculum. Students take part in discussions about major artists’ work, their influences on art and how to have a Christ-centered approach to the art world.
